Market-leading email and file encryption solution provider and the largest UK-based private healthcare organisation shortlisted for Security Project of the Year (Private Sector).
In recognition of work carried out to secure highly confidential patient information, Egress Software Technologies and Spire Healthcare have been shortlisted for the 2013 Computing Security Awards in the category of Security Project of the Year (Private Sector).
With 37 hospitals throughout the country, more than 7,600 employees and over 930,000 patients visiting their facilities annually, Spire Healthcare is one of the leading UK-based providers of private healthcare. As such, Spire employees often have to share highly confidential patient information with a range of external third parties, including NHS hospitals and clinics, patients, and staff outside existing secure networks. In line with their commitment to providing the highest quality medical care, Spire recognised the need to adopt a comprehensive approach to protecting this information that was also simple for staff to use.
As the market-leading email and file encryption solution for private healthcare providers, Egress Switch enables medical professionals to communicate securely between hospitals throughout the UK, as well as with third party organisations.
Commenting at the time of the project, Spire Healthcare’s Head of IT Technical Services Sean Conroy stated: “Using Switch, Spire staff can secure and manage the information they share externally. Package restrictions and the ability to revoke access enables us to, if necessary, place limitations on what recipients can do with the information that is shared with them. This control and auditing functionality has enabled us to remain compliant with the NHS Information Governance policies, which is a key part of ensuring the ongoing success of our partnership with the NHS.
“In addition, under the ISO certification, we have to examine all information security risks, implementing a solution that both addresses these risks and is flexible to our evolving requirements,” continues Conroy. “As Switch offers a fully configurable service, it helps us to remain compliant. For example, Switch can be deployed based upon our individual security policies – it can scan email content and prompt a user to encrypt based on whether key terms are being used. As such, we have an encryption product that can be adapted in line with our security policy.”
Speaking about the announcement, Egress CEO Tony Pepper commented:
“We are delighted to be shortlisted along with Spire Healthcare for the Security Project of the Year (Private Sector) at this year’s Computing Security Awards. Working in close partnership with Spire, we were able to tailor a solution to their information security needs that has enabled them to remain competitive under both NHS and industry standards. Given the success of this project, it is obviously very pleasing to receive this recognition from Computing Security, which we feel further endorses the work carried out by Egress with all of our clients to improve their data security and protect the information they share.”
